I took a walk around the block where i lived and photographed mailboxes. I noticed that not one mailbox was the same. Although there were some similarities, the differences in each mailbox was obvious.
Differences:
- colours
- size
- shape
- position near house (some were on post, while others were attached to fences)
- numbers (obviously)
- condition of the mailbox (ranging from brand new to rusting and faded numbers)
- what they were made out of- plastic, metal
While taking the photos of the mailboxes, i thought of how they once acted as treasure boxes, acting as a channel of communication. Letters from loved ones would fill the mailboxes but now they're normally filled with bills and junk mail. With the invention of email, sometimes physical mailboxes become irrelevant altogether.
Handwritten letters found in mailboxes become an unexpected luxury.
Colour Walk put up in the class room.
